
The African American Arts Festival (AAAF) January 13-March 31, 2008, is an annual three month countywide celebration of artistic accomplishments, achievements and culture of African Americans designed to present and promote various art forms for the enlightenment and entertainment of the general public. The opening AAAF event is Atelier’s Founding Members Invitational Exhibition which in part, highlights a Featured Artist. Photographer Michael Cunningham (coauther of Crowns) and author Connie Briscoe, profile in their book, fifty wowman over the age of fifty who have been remarkably successul–whether in reaching the top of the corporate ladder, finding fame in politics ro the arts, or raising a son to be proud of a single mother–and reveal the ways that they have prevailed despite daunting obstacles.

Jacquelyn Hughes Mooney, owner of She Roks! Studio and citizen of New Orleans, started her artistic journey with coloring books, daydreams and doll houses and is a nationally recognized artist. She created the Big City Women series in 1995 as a vehicle for her vibrant, jazzy contemporary quilted textile collages and stories.
